6.9L IDI vs. 6.7L Power Stroke

From IDI to Ford's In-House Power Stroke

Ford entered the diesel industry with a mere 170 hp & 338 lb-ft of torque. Believe it or not, this was considered a lot in 1983, and the highly sought after International 6.9L had a great reputation. It is amazing how far Ford has come in the diesel market today, offering their own, FoMoCo built 6.7L Power Stroke with over 400 hp and 800 lb-ft of torque. Though naturally aspirated worked in the 80's, Ford did not even settle for a standard turbocharger on their new design. Rather, they equipped the 6.7L with the top of the line DualBoost, twin compressor turbocharger.
