Power Stroke vs Cummins vs Duramax

Omitting GM's 350 Olds, the company's first serious effort in the diesel pickup segment was the 6.2L Detroit diesel V-8 introduced for the 1982 model year. Ford would begin offering the International built 6.9L IDI V-8 the following model year, facing little competition until Dodge adopted the 6BT Cummins I-6 into their fullsize D/W series trucks in 1989. The diesel truck category continues to grow more and more competitive as the years pass, with manufacturers now offering engines surpassing 400 horsepower and 1,000 ft-lbs of torque. The charts below provide historical horsepower and torque ratings for diesel engine offerings from GM, Dodge, and Ford. Note that any obscure (commercial vans, box trucks, etc), chassis cab truck (including medium duty), and light duty/midsize (including 1/2 ton) applications have been omitted from the ratings listed below as the focus is the domestic fullsize pickup truck market.
