3.0L Duramax Diesel LM2

Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 1500 Diesel News & Specifications

Horsepower ratings, torque ratings, and fuel economy estimates are amongst the leaked information regarding the 3.0L Duramax diesel, which is destined for 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra half ton models. While these reported figures remain "unofficial", as GM has yet to announce their advertised figures nor complete specifications for the upcoming addition to the Duramax engine family, they represent the engine's current baseline and GM engineer's progress on development.

Note - the following information is based on preliminary specifications released by and/or leaked from General Motors; some information may be missing or incomplete. This page will be updated as more details are released.

As of current, the engine is targeted to produce 282 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Keeping in mind that the engine remains under development, these figures are significant because they oust both the Ram 1500's EcoDiesel and the Ford F-150's new Power Stroke; both 3.0L V-6 designs. The leaked data also suggests the Duramax will achieve up to 28 mpg in select configurations, although this has yet to be validated by the EPA. While the Duramax may come in slightly behind Ram Trucks and Ford in fuel economy, they've surpassed both their competitors in the performance department. It is also believed that the 2019 Duramax equipped Silverado/Sierra 1500 models will be rated to tow up to 7,800 lbs, significantly lower than either of their domestic competitors.

The 3.0L Duramax will utilize the 10L80 ten speed automatic transmission, which was co-developed with Ford Motor Company (Ford designation 10R80). Like the Ford variant, GM's transmission and engine combination will feature automatic start-stop technology designed to shut down the engine once the vehicle is brought to a stop and promptly restart the engine when takeoff is desired.

Delivery of 3.0L Duramax equipped trucks is not expected until late in 2019. The diesel will be optional on LT, RST, and High Country sub-models only.
