More than 650,000 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup models are being recalled on concerns that side curtain air bags may deploy unexpectedly.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling approximately 667,406 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickup models from the 2013 to 2015 model years over concerns that the “occupant restraint control module” calibration may cause the side curtain air bags to unexpectedly inflate and the seat belt pre-tensioners to deploy.

The issue reportedly stems from an overly sensitive calibration of the side impact sensor. FCA engineers have determined that the problem may be limited to 4 door pickups. Owners of affected pickups should be notified by FCA and can receive a system re-calibration at their local dealership free of charge.
