New Process NP208

NP208 Transfer Case Specs & Ratios

The NP208 transfer case was originally a vision into the future - weight saving aluminum case and a chain driven planetary reduction gearset. The NP208 was used in a variety of vehicles, including Ford, GMC/Chevrolet, and Dodge pickups mated to both manual and automatic transmissions. The part time transfer case has an appealing 2.61 : 1 low range. Because of its chain driven operation, the NP208 requires ATF for lubrication, rather than the heavy gear oil commonly used in gear driven transfer cases.

Like most transfer cases, the NP208 was offered in a number of variations. GM pickups received either a 27 or 32 spline model, while Ford used a 31 spline model and Dodge's NP208 had a 23 spline input. The GM 32 spline model used behind the TH400 is notable for its strength.
