Ford 7.3L Gas V-8 Engine Specs & Information

The 7.3L gas V-8 is Ford's replacement for the 6.8L V-10 and 6.2L V-8 engines. Although the Triton V-10 was retired from Super Duty pickups following the 2010 model year, Ford continued to utilize the engine in select commercial applications through the 2019 model year. And while the 6.2L V-8 remains available in F-250/F-350 trucks, the 7.3L is likely to phase it out in the near future. Internally, the engine was appropriately codenamed "Godzilla", likely due to its large displacement; it is the largest gasoline engine Ford has produced since the 460 CID (7.5L) V-8 was retired from the F-Series in the late 1990's.

The 7.3L is offered in 3 power variations; the pickup version is rated at a peak 430 horsepower (475 lb-ft of torque) while the chassis cab features a 350 horsepower (468 lb-ft of torque) version. A specially detuned variant designed for maximizing fuel economy is available in the stripped chassis E-Series, which is rated at 300 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque. In F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 pickups and chassis cabs the 7.3L V-8 is coupled to the TorqShift 10 speed automatic transmission, while F-650, F-750, and stripped chassis vehicles will continue to use a 6 speed automatic transmission.
