The Duramax diesel was introduced in 2001 at 300 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque and has since evolved to produce 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. While certain generations of the Duramax represent little more than more aggressive engine calibrations, others can nearly be classified as clean-slate designs with significant revisions relying on entirely different, non-interchangeable components.
