GM 6L90 6 Speed Automatic Transmission Specs & Information

The 6L90-E is a heavy duty version of GM's 6L80 designed for fullsize vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 15,000 lbs and a gross combined weight rating of up to 21,000 lbs. The 6 speed automatic transmission features a modular transmission case design that accepts various bellhousings and output shaft adapters so that the transmission can be utilized in many applications without requiring extensive modifications or necessitate the need for complete application specific transmission designs. The 6L90 is found in Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD pickups beginning with the 2007 model year. It is also used in the 2010 to current Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana 2500/3500 van series.
